COMPETITION RULES
CAPE MALAY CHOIR BOARD
COMPETITION RULES AND CONDITIONS:
1. Only choirs affiliated to the BOARD shall be eligible for COMPETITIONS of the BOARD.
2. Choirs must present themselves 30 minutes before the advertised time or as ruled by the PRESIDENT of the BOARD, Choirs arriving on singing on after the stipulated time shall be fines R50.00. To be PAID IMMEDIATELY.
3. All affiliated choir members including MUSICIANS shall wear a FEZ headgear in all competitions. A choir contravening this rule will be disqualified of an item.
4. Only REGISTERED AFFILITATED MEMBERS can participate in any competition of the BOARD UNREGISTERED MEMBER/S PARTICIPANTS WITH A CHOIR IN ANY COMPETITION OF THE BOARD SUCH A CHOIR WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
5. DISQUALIFICATION of a choir will be made PUBLIC at the end of the competition. Before the presentation of trophies.
6. Choirs can only compete or participate in any COMPETITION of the BOARD if they have settled all their LIABILITIES, although an appeal could be made to the PRESIDENT and his EXECUTIVE to consider very special cases.
7. CHOIR cannot compete with less than 18 members EXCLUDING MUSICIANS, choral competition only. Grand March/Exhibition March to be reviewed.
8. ANY MEMBER/S UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF LIQUOR OR DRUGS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE WITH HIS/THEIR CHOIR IS AUTOMATICALLY UNDER SUSPENSION.
9. LIQUOR, DRUGS AND FIREARMS IS PROHIBITED AT ALL COMPETITIONS OF THE BOARD.
10. A Choir must compete as per BALLOT DRAWN in all Competitions. If Choir no. 1 is not available or present then the choir no.2 must take its place and so on. If choir no.1 has arrived they must still complete their items and disqualification comes in place plus a fine of R350.00 if they refuse to participate. Circumstances of a very serious nature will be considered.
11. No member/s of any choir will be allowed to consult any ADJUDICATORS before or after any competition. The law will takes is course.
12. The execution of he President of the Board shall consult the ADJUDICATORS to clarify the rules and conditions of all competitions.
13. Best dress shall be judged on uniformity as per guidelines. Points will be awarded for the Best Dress item at the Champs of Champs or GRAND FINALE. (subject to alteration).
14. A choir with an old uniform with changed accessories will also be judged, but PREFERENCE for points or trophies will be allowed to a choir with a new uniform. E.g. SUIT, SHIRT, TIE, SHOES, SOCKS, BLAZER, SPORTS JACKET, TROUSER.
15. POINTS WILL ONLY BE AWARDED FOR THE BEST DRESSED ITEM CHAMS OF CHAMPS OR GRAND FINALE. (subject to alteration)
16. CHOIRS will only be allowed to sing with accompaniment of string instruments. E.g BANJO, GUITAR, CHELLO, VIOLIN, MANDOLIN, HARP, EXCLUDING THE PIANO. The GOMA may accompany the COMIC SONG ONLY.
17. Choir shall only sing Dutch and Afrikaans songs in all Competitions.
18. Judging of singing shall be done by harmony and not volume. (According to Adjudicators guide lines).
19. Choirs/Soloists are not allowed to sing direct TRANSLATION f completed ORIGINAL SONGS/TEXT English or Afrikaans. DISQUALITFICATION COME INTO EFFECT.
20. CHOIRS may utilise any melody / tune in their SOLO, COMIC OR COMBINE.
21. Singing the COMIC SONG shall be judged by its rhythm and harmony. Antics of the lead singer MUST NOT INFLUENCE the judging of this item. The lead singer shall have no extras with regards to e.g. DANCERS.
22. If a musician is with a choir and does not play an instrument, then he is regarded as part of the choir, and must be dressed the same as the choir.
23. Time limits for all items from the first strum or beat is 26 MINUTES. Choirs taking more than the required time will forfeit the SOLO SONG ITEM.
24. Choirs will not be allowed to sing WITHOUT MUSIC barring a few lines for a soft chorus in the COMBINE and COMIC or SOLO. Furthermore they MUST STATE/STIPULATE which PORTION OF THEIR SONG WILL BE WITHOUT MUSIC.
